Today’s installment of the Random Alphabet of SRH is not really all that random. I mean, come on, when I decided to do all 26 letters on Thursday’s and my birthday is on a Thursday. It only makes sense that Today’s letter is the second letter of the English alphabet, B.
Without further ado,
Like I said earlier, the serendipity of the whole calendar thingy really made this one an easy one. B is for Birthday.
I have mentioned before that my birthday is bittersweet (here and here), but I am going to attempt to not dwell on this too terribly much because, well, I have covered the topic pretty thoroughly and I really don’t want to become repetitive in my posting repetitive in my posting repetitive in my posting repetitive in my posting repetitive in my posting

Thanks… where was I? Oh yes, today I am going to belabor a point that my previous birthday posts haven’t touched on. Let’s see… ummm… what to write about? What to write? Ummm… some aspect of birthdays and how they have affected my life. Okay here we go, where I was on my Birthday, as far as I can recall.

I will be getting some “Birthday Chocolate Chip Cookies” sometime this afternoon lovingly made by Wifey and Little Man
What can I say, the boy really loves baking
Mainly because he like eating the cookie dough
Since he is allergic to eggs, there isn’t any in the dough and he can eat as much of it as he wants
So can Wifey and I
That cookie dough is absolutely sinful
Have a great weekend everyone

Happy Birthday!!! I hope you're enjoying your day off work.
What happened on your 19th birthday that was so life altering? You have me intrigued.

Happiest of birthdays, love.
Happy Birthday! You were missed last night. It was nice seeing people again though. Hopefully I'll see you next time around.

For more explanation of the whole 19th birthday look in my archives at the other 2 June 21 posts.
Wifey:
This was a really nice birthday.
Tree Monkey:
Thanks for the well wishes. Sorry I was not able to attend, but evening events are difficult to get to these days.
Happy (belated) Birthday! I can't believe they chose the date of your actual birthday for the drive? Did they forget or did they think, nah, you won't care?
Interestingly, I had a similar 21st birthday experience. I wonder if aliens abduct people on their 21st birthdays which is why we can't remember them.
Allrileyedup:
On the road for the third birthday thanks to the fine people of the United States Air Force.
I have done an informal poll and it seems that not too many people in the US can fully recolect their 21st birthday. Even (sometimes especially)people I have asked 3 days after their 21st birthday. Odd that
B is for Belated, which is what my birthday wishes are.
(B is also for b*llsh*t, which describes the offside call preventing the tying goal in the Canada v USA soccer game. I had to watch the ticker on the soccer usa website, so I didn't even get to see it.)
Themikestand:
Thanks for the belated birthday wishes.
As for the offsides call... I have not seen good footage of where the Canadian player making the far post run was when the initial Candian pass was made. If he was in an offsides position when the Canadian crossed the ball and the ball got to him, it should be called. There was also another Canadian player who was clearly onside when the ball was played (near post run). The sideline judge might have waited to see who the ball went to before he made his call. If it goes to the potentially offsides guy (far post run), he raises the flag, and if it went to the other guy then it is a fair play.
The above is rather straight forward, the interesting part comes when the ball is played by the US player. If the US player demonstrated that he put the ball near where he intentionally wanted it to go, then he made a play on the ball and the Canadian shouldn't have been considered offside. However, if the US player was merely an object that the ball bounced off of, then the descision should be made on the previous paragraph's argument.
Here is the rub. There is not a good angle to judge if the guy was in an offside position at the time the ball was struck. Also, the US player's play on the ball was not a strong one and could have been considered nearly inadvertant.
I understand why the sideline judge had some dificulty with this play. It really could have been considered either way. In that event, FIFA instructs the officials to defer to the offensive team. Since I did not see anything absolutely conclusive, I would say that Canada was robbed.
I don't think that Canada would have faired as well against Mexico in the final though, but that is just my opinion, because Canada was playing out of their mind all tournament long. Mexico could have gone into the final overconfident and the Canadians could have surprised them, but Mexico has been craving some hardware for a looooong time now, so there is a good chance they would have come to the final to play for reals anyway.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. In a nutshell, Canada was robbed.
Wow, I made an essay out of that one.
