You see part of the issue for me is that for the first 19 passes around the sun, I don’t think I even realized that time was passing. I was immortal. I was maturing but not aging. But then I saw a man, a good man, taken down in the prime of his life, and I realized I was not immortal. I saw G-Money’s (also referred to as “Capt. McArmypants” and “that jerk in Colorado.”) father get struck by a drunk driver. I saw it happen and could do nothing to stop it. It changed my life, because after that point I had witnessed the Grim Reaper descend from the Twisting Nether and claim something that was not rightfully his. That will change one’s views on death and dying. That visitation by death himself will alter how you view other’s death and hopefully, how you live your life.
Because of this event that happened on my 19th birthday, in many ways I am also 13. 13 years ago a new person emerged from that tragic event. A new me. A more introspective me, but also a more callous and jaded me. Case in point: Wifey, Little Man and I were on our way back home from a local Metropark when we saw 2 truckers beating the ever living crap out of another trucker. 2 weeks later Wifey looks at me and asks, "How do you not dwell on the fact that these 2 people were beating another man?"
I responded with, “2 guys whalluping another has nothing on a half-ton flatbed smacking someone.” Jaded? Yes. Cynical? Yes. True? For me? Hell, Yes.
For the first time ever Little Man said to me “Happy Birthday”
My knee hurts because it is raining
Crap games being played this morning for the World Cup
US plays
Go US
I need a hair cut
Having Mama Mimi’s’ Mama’s Favorite Chicken Pizza for lunch today
I still have to come into work for a meeting on my day off
Stupid meeting
Today is my 32/13 th birthday
It is a very bittersweet day

Happy Birthday...
i myself stopped aging at 8, which mathematically is interesting because if you add 8 to 2.46153846 and then multiply times pi you get 33, which is how old my driver's license says i am.
pi. why did it have to be pi?
James:
Thanks
Ducky:
Ducky?!?!? What the hell is up with the name change? To me, you will always be Brando...
Pie is tasty, that is why pi
hey there, happy birthday, hope we didn't scare you away with our last comment, kisses, melissa and gang
Much love to you on this - and all - days...
Happy B Day. Welcome to 32. As an experienced 32 year old I can say - your knees will only ache more. Good times.
As you may recall I can relate to your life altering experience. My birthdays, while nice-ish are never a real celebration for me . I changed as well and my perspective has altered dramatically.
But I would HAVE TOTALLY intervened on that fight in one way or another. My change has been that every moment is a chance not to regret something. But your anger/cynicism (I think) is the other side of the same f-ing coin. We both had the same view after the fact, they just resulted in different responses. Neither is right and neither is wrong. They just are. I wish we were never forced to have them. And we were forced. Stupid & horrible drunk drivers.
Kinda sucks.
Three cheers for little man and his happy birthday wishes. Coolest kid EVER.
Ok - your blog - so I will shut up now. Watching US VS Ghana - I know Ghana will win - which bums me out - but they are REALLY good to watch. Good footwork. Sigh.
Really. I am shutting up now.

much love to you as well

Bitter is as bitter does.
As for the truckers, we did call the police and they did respond appropriately, at least on the phone. While they probably did not actually stop the fight, I hope they got there so the guy getting the beat down could get some medical attention.
Honestly, there was not much else we could have done, other than have 2 truckers beating my ass. Wifey and I had many a conversation about what actions we could have taken, but none were really feasible, even in hindsight.
we called the proper authorities, that was about all we could do.
The US team could never generate any sort of effective offense, and I honestly think that this cup fiasco rests equally on the team and on the management of said team. Throughout all three games the US did not look offensive minded enough. We got some bad calls, but we cannot blame the lack of offensive production on refs. I think it is time for arena to pass the baton. "To whom?" is a much bigger question.
Dustin:
We have an unwritten rule in our household (actually there is a whole list of unwritten rules, if yoiu can believe that)that we never mention to restaurants birthdays. Another unwritten rule is no playing with Wifey's butt while on the steps. Thgat is more about safety though.
