Orapred is the oral steroid that is adminsitered to young ones who are having or just recently had an asthmatic episode. It is the kid version of prednazone. There are some immediate side effects associated with Orapred, these are, in no particular order:
1. increased thirst
2. insatiable appetite
3. insomnia
These three effects cuase a fourth effect, crankiness. Needless to say, being the parent of a kid on Orapred is not the easiest thing I have had to do. Looks like I will have insomnia by proximity.

My 4 year old little boy was just put on the generic form of this medication. He also has ADHD and ODD. This medication is making him sleep only 2-4 hours at a time. With about 6-8 being awake in between. I am so tired.
On a normal day... I deal with temper tantrums, throwing things, screaming etc. With this med, it is only making it worse. Thank God he only has to be on it for 5 days. I couldn't handle it if he had to be on it for a long time. Good luck to any one who has a child with a need for this med full time who has ADHD or ODD. Good luck to everyone on this site who has a sick little one.

I hate this drug and love this drug. I hate the side effects, but I am positive that my little boy would not be if it weren't for its existence. It is definitely a good thing that it is only typically a 5 day course. I hope you and yours are doing better.
